Our Volunteers

Peterborough Sailability is run entirely by volunteers and without them we would be unable to provide people with disabilities, our sailors, with the opportunity to enjoy the experience of going out on the water and either just relaxing or taking part in the sailing.

As our popularity increases we constantly need more people to make things work. We are looking for volunteers  both male and female of any age and from all walks of life who would like to give up a little of their time on a Tuesday or Thursday during our sailing season, April to October.

Many of our volunteers are sailors who want to share their enthusiasm and love of the sport with others. We also have as many who have had little or no experience of water sports who help with the varied tasks involved. We all get enormous satisfaction from helping our disabled sailors enjoy their time on the water.

Volunteers are needed to take bookings, greet sailors on arrival, help book in, assist with selection of protective clothing and life jackets, launch and recover boats, drive the quad bike or safety boat, rig boats, act as buddy to our sailors, instruct to RYA standards, manage the web site and a hundred other things that need to be done as our numbers increase.

We take the safety of both our sailors and volunteers very seriously and have a full training programme in place to ensure that all our equipment and procedures are safe and understood by all who need to know.  Training sessions are held before the season starts with further training and refresher sessions throughout the year.

We are a very friendly bunch and hold regular social events during the season and in the winter.

We are delighted to announce that Maureen Glover our Shore Master was awarded the National RYA Sailability Award for Exceptional Contribution at the National Conference in February 2018.

Maureen has been involved with Peterborough Sailability since its inception in 2005 and has indeed made an exceptional contribution.

In the words of the citation "Maureen is the glue that holds Peterborough Sailability together".
